Douglass Elementary gives back to our community in many ways.
During the holiday season, we help the less fortunate children in our the community by providing gifts for them. Just before Thanksgiving Break, the Douglass Mitten Tree gets put up in the office. Stop by and pick up your mitten. Each mitten has both a child's age and their holiday gift request.
We thank you in advance of the season for your support and
your generosity. Please wrap the gift or put it in a gift bag with the mitten
taped to it and return it to the school office by early December.
We are collecting food items for the food bank at Emergency Family Assistance Association (EFAA) which is used to support local families in need. Please bring in donations of canned and packaged food like peanut butter, canned tuna, pasta, and cereals, and toiletries including diapers, shampoo, toothpaste, band-aids, and laundry products. Each classroom has a collection box for these items.
It’s time again for donating those too-small, somewhat-worn, but still-warm coats to the annual Share-A-Coat program. Other items such as hats, gloves, sweaters, mittens, snow-boots, etc. will also be accepted for donation.
Each year the Boulder Valley Rotary Club, with cleaning services donated by Art Cleaners in
Boulder, collects coats from many of our local schools, cleans them and
distributes them to families and children who are in need of them.
A box has been provided at our school, so please send coats you are no longer using to school with your student. Both children and adult size coats are needed! The Boulder Valley Rotary Volunteers will pick up the coats from our school and deliver them to the cleaners.
We are collecting new and gently used toys, books, games, and puzzles for donation to the Share-a-Gift program to help less fortunate children in Boulder county. Please bring donation items to the school and drop them off in the collection box before Winter Break.
Share-A-Gift is an annual, all-volunteer toy collection and distribution holiday project encompassing the Boulder Valley Schools area. For more information, please visit the Share-A-Gift Website. This is a great volunteer activity for the whole family.
The ColoradoGives Website
provides updated information on many different charities and
non-profit organizations, making it easy to donate online. By donating
on the specified date, these charities will receive an additional amount of
money from the $1million incentive fund.
There's a day to give thanks. Two days for getting deals. Now, there is #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back.
