Principal's Message

Thank you for visiting the Douglass Elementary School web site!

Douglass Elementary has a rich history as a neighborhood school offering a rigorous academic program, high-quality instruction in the arts, and a warm, welcoming school climate. The collaboration between our highly-trained and caring staff and our dedicated parent volunteers; provides a superior educational experience for children at Douglass Elementary.

Our students are performing at high levels academically and continue to show remarkable gains over time. As one of the highest-performing schools in the state, Douglass has received the John J. Irwin School of Excellence award from the Colorado Department of Education for six consecutive years and continues to make annual achievement gains well above state averages.

We are pleased to share our vision and mission statements for our school that will provide guidance and clarity for our work on behalf of the most important people in our school - the over 330 children that walk through our hallways each day.

  • WE CARE: Community, Achievement, Relationships, Environment
  • Douglass Elementary School is a nurturing environment where students achieve academic excellence, build strong character, engage in arts and athletics, and succeed as thoughtful leaders in the 21st Century.
  • Our mission is to provide learning opportunities that foster caring, creativity, academic excellence, and leadership.

Douglass' teachers are committed to meeting the academic, social, emotional, creative, and cultural needs of the whole child. Based on strong bonds of collegiality, respect, and child-centeredness, Douglass Elementary offers students a welcoming and supportive place to learn.

Now, the task is for us all to make these words a living part of our work each day. I value how these words express a commitment to strong academics, the whole child, our efforts to foster student leadership, and all the parts of school that are fun and engaging. I hope you agree with me that these words are lofty yet clear, and they are accessible to all members of our school community.

Thank you, and please let me know if you have any questions about our school.
