2024-25 School Year Kindergarten Welcome Days!

Welcome Days provide our BVSD kindergarten students with a few days to help ease the transition to kindergarten and promote a successful school experience, both academically and emotionally. Children come to school on assigned days to allow for a smaller group setting so teachers and students can get to know each other and the different spaces and teachers in the school. While some assessments may be administered on these welcome days, assessments are not the primary focus. Welcome Back Days have been incredibly successful for families, students and teachers in recent years and we know this will benefit your children as well.
For the 2024-25 School Year:
  • Your child will be assigned to attend a full day either Wednesday, August 14th or Thursday, August 15th.
    • Wednesday, 8/14: A to I
    • Thursday, 8/15: J to Z
  • All Kindergarten students will attend school for a full day on Friday, August 16th in their homeroom with their assigned teacher.

The full day Kindergarten program at Douglass Elementary provides an opportunity for students to learn through play. For many students this may be a first introduction to a school environment. Our teachers place a big emphasis on social and emotional skills along with teaching the curriculum. Students are also exposed to art, music, technology, and physical education throughout the week. For Kindergarten enrollment, a child must reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30th. Learn more about the kindergarten curriculum and resources below.
